Elizabeth James Gallery Closing - PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release 6th March 2020


After just over 3 years, Elizabeth James Gallery is closing its doors for the last time on 31st March 2020.


Elizabeth James Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in the heart of South Norwood and winner of 2018 TimeOut Love London Award voted by the locals as No1 Culture Spot in SE25.


Having opened in December 2016 as part of the regeneration of Croydon, Elizabeth James Gallery has welcomed artists from all over the world to the gallery and showcase many very talented emerging artists. The gallery has seen visits from the likes of Judy Love, High Commissioners of Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago and The Commonwealth of Dominica. The gallery held workshops and Live Art Saturday for the community and provided students with work experience placements.


Elizabeth said “I have worked alongside some truly amazing creative souls from all over the world and some have become friends, almost family.Family is so important to me and being able to share each moment alongside my mother Maggie is something I will cherish forever. It’s been great to have young creatives come to the gallery for workshops and school visits, they have inspired me and brought many joyful moments to the gallery. I hope you will join us  at the private view for a piece of cake,a glass of wine and a final farewell!”


This weekl is the opening of our very last group exhibition at the gallery called Art Tonic. Contemporary artists from around the world come together to create an exhibition exploring colour and form, whilst exploring notion of art being an inspirational tonic for the soul as well as the effect tone and form have on us as individuals.

Monday - Saturday 10am - 5pm / Wednesday 10am - 4:30pm


At the very end of March the doors will close for the last time, but not before Croydon contemporary artist Nasha Bradshaw showcases his personal favourites vibrant enchanting pieces that document his progression in his technique and skill since  Elizabeth James Gallery opened in 2016. 


Nasha Bradshaw has been a regular feature at the gallery since the doors opened and is passionate about its place in the community of South Norwood SE25.

The Awards honour the most loved venues in cities around the world, voted for by locals. They are part of Time Out’s commitment to help people discover the best of the city and support local businesses, while also offering them a platform to gain recognition and fame.


Elizabeth James® Gallery est December 2016 as part of Croydon regeneration is hidden gem in SE25 providing monthly group art exhibitions, workshops for all ages / skill levels, & Live Art Saturday’s. It welcomes the community with a relaxed, fun, friendly vibe. It is also a boutique gift shop where locals can find a special gift for someone special or a treat for themselves.
